How To Know The Difference Between Cologne And Perfume

Whenever you have gone out to purchase perfume, you have probably noticed different sized bottles and well as different prices of the same fragrance. You have probably also noticed that some are labeled perfume while others are labeled cologne. You will note that there is a big price difference between perfume and cologne. This is because cologne is simply perfume that has been more heavily diluted.

Most people tend to purchase cologne in an atomizer. This makes it easy to put on before going out for the evening or to work. Perfume also can come in an atomizer, but it is usually much smaller. Take a look at your fragrances and see if they say cologne or perfume. In some instances, perfume may be spelled the French way as parfum.

Because all perfume is mixed with alcohol, it will evaporate after being put on your skin. Only the base note will survive and will stay for a while. The base note is what will be left lingering in the air after you have left the room. Cologne has much more alcohol than perfume and is not as strong. Cologne will not linger in the air as long as perfume, although it will still leave a scent that lasts. The main difference between perfume and cologne is the price for the bottle and how it is applied to the skin.

While some perfumes come with atomizers, which make spraying them on easier than dabbing them on, you must be careful not to use too much of a perfume spray as it will overpower the air. You do not want people to know you are coming from a mile away because of an overdose of perfume. You will want to use perfume spray the same way you would use perfume. Put a dab on the pressure points on the front of your wrists and behind each ear.

You can be a little more liberal with the use of cologne than you can perfume, however it is still important not to overdo it. Because it tends to evaporate quicker, and because we get used to the scent, we often feel we have to put more on because we cannot smell it anymore. In most cases, this is not true and anyone who gets close enough to you will pick up on the scent. You can spray cologne on your wrists, neck and in your hair and then just leave it alone and you will give off the pleasant scent of its aroma.

Price is also a factor when choosing between perfume and cologne. Many people like cologne because it is cheaper, comes in bigger bottles and usually has an atomizer. Perfume is very concentrated and comes in a tiny bottle and has no atomizer. Perfume is generally more expensive than cologne. Both products work just as effectively, although the scent of the same perfume and cologne may smell different on the same woman. Because of the alcohol content and the time in evaporation, the scent of perfume may differ from that of cologne.

In addition to perfume and cologne, there is also a product called a splash that does hardly contains any fragrance at all but is mostly alcohol and water. Jean Nate splash is an example of such a product. A splash can be used liberally all over the body and because of the alcohol, it has a cooling effect on the skin without an overpowering scent.

Whenever you are applying scent, either for an evening out or going to work, make sure you are aware of the difference between cologne and perfume and apply the scent accordingly. You will want o make a nice impression with your scent without overpowering people.
